Meaning or Definition of Environmental Education

Education Environmental education is a key definition to clarify the meaning and conception following is:-

1. According to the United States Environmental Education Act (1970)” – ” Environmental education refers to the educational process that relates to the natural and man-made environment of humans. It also contains the relation of population, pollution, appropriation, and de-allocation of resources, conservation, traffic, technology and urban and rural planning of the entire human environment.

2. UNESCO (1970), according to the Commission – Environmental education is the process under which a man and his environment have made an effort to understand the mutual relationship. between nature and creature and their dependence It helps to develop learners its concept clear. So, environment education helps to solve environment related issues through better understanding and qualitative improvement in environment conditions.

3. According to UNESCO Finnish National Commission Seminar (1976) held in Jami, finland – The Environmental education is a way to implement the environmental protection goals. It is not a separate branch of science or a separate study subject. It must be applied as principles of integrated education throughout life. “

The above clear analysis of all definitions is that environmental education is the same as the issued integrated education run. Environmental education is a process by which the human environment develops awareness, knowledge, skills, and values so that the environment may be improved. Through environmental education, individuals are trained and prepared to understand the physical, social, economic, political, and cultural problems related to the environment.

Field of Environmental Education

Environmental education has included topics in the field that can be put into three groups is – (a) natural resources, (b) the human and environmental relationships, (c) environmental control and protection.

(A) Natural Resources – It is combined study of the natural resources. It covers to pices like : – (1) Air (2) Water (3) Vegetation (4) Fauna ( 5 ) Soil (6) Scenery (Size Ranges) (7) Earth Matter (8) Sources of Energy (9) Agricultural Ecological System.

(B) The Human and Environmental Relationships – It includes the study of the following things: -1. Man and his environment. 2. Forms of resource usage.3. History of resource conservation.

4. Environmental Properties:- It includes or coves (1) The properties of air and pollution, (2) Quality and pollution of water, (3) pesticide pollution, (4) radio Dharmita pollution, (5) waste, (6) nuclear waste, etc. (6) Social contribution to resource conservation.(7) Population. (8) Urban and regional planning. (9). River Valley Projects.

(C) Environmental Control and Protection – It covers the study of: – (1) Sound control. (2) Control of the properties of underground and groundwater, (3) treatment of wastewater. (4) Prevention of air pollution.
