Describe the factors affecting the health of children.

Meaning of Physical Health

Physical health, means that all the organs and tissues of the body are functioning according to their capacity keeping complete harmony in the body. The hallmark of a healthy body is clean skin, bright shiny hair, well-balanced body, regular functioning of the rectum and bladder and performing all its functions smoothly through the senses.

Factors Affecting Health

The factors affecting health are the following: (1) Genetics, (2) Way of living, (3) Socioeconomic perspective, (4) External environment, (5) Health services.

1. Genetics – The anatomy of the baby is determined in the mother’s womb itself and it cannot be changed under any circumstances. Medical science has discovered many diseases that are genetics. Thus genetics has some but important influence on human body and health. At the time of conception, many types of deficiencies and diseases of the woman’s body have an adverse effect on the baby. On the other hand healthy parents give birth to a healthy baby which has innate power to fight against many types of external diseases.

2. Lifestyle – The way of living also has an important effect on health. For example, many types of physical diseases arise due to bad habits like consumption of alcohol, drinking, smoking etc. Due to excessive mental stress and fatigue, there is a possibility of heart disease. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to health and lifestyle.

3. Socioeconomic Perspective – The more socio-economically strong the family, the more smoothly it can live its family members. Socio-economic perspective has a special contribution in the field of health. This can be seen in different stages –

(A) Education – Education on creates awareness in every field. The health sector is no different. Illiterate people often take themselves to a serious position due to ignorance.

(b) Occupation – The occupation of a person also affects his health. There are many occupations where employed persons are seen suffering from serious diseases; For example, those working in mines, carpet weavers, marble stone chemical, medical, workers are more prone to tuberculosis.

(c) Political system – The political system of any country also affects the health of its residents. Taking the right decisions at the right time and implementing them through the political system will take the public and the community on a healthy path.

4. External Environment – Everything outside the body of a person is called external environment. The external environment can be divided into three parts –

(a) Social environment – Social environment, people living around the person, traditions, culture, market, political system etc. can be kept in the category of social environment.

(b) Physical environment – The physical space around a person is called physical environment. It can include water, air, house, weather, clothes etc.

(c) Biological environment- There are many types of animals around us which have a great impact on our health; For example, flies, mosquitoes, microorganisms, germs, bacteria etc. are part of the biological environment.

5. Health Services – Health services means providing such services which can build healthy human beings and healthy society. These services can be divided into three parts –

(a) Provision of treatment – The person is suffering from minor diseases. Such services include facilities for proper diagnosis and diagnosis of diseases.

(b) Preventive Services – This category includes all those services which are provided to prevent possible diseases; For example, getting preventive vaccines to protect children from diseases, like, Polio, Pox, Corona, etc.

(c) Motivational Services – Under this, the public community is motivated to keep good health and to prevent diseases with the help of balanced diet, exercise, hygiene, etc.
